PALM DESERT GREENS DEMOCRATIC CLUB

MINUTES FOR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

FEB. 12, 2010

The meeting was called to order by club president Charlie Ara at 9:45. After the flag salute, Henry Hoyle led the group in singing “Grand Ole Flag.”

Secretary/Treasurer Report: Sharon Miller reported that there are currently 63 paid members and a bank balance of $2.209.47.

Political Action Report: Dale Hultgren reported on the push for voter registrations (March 29 deadline). The club will be involved in registering voters at COD and Westfield Mall. There will be a training session after the February 26th meeting for those who wish to participate in this important effort. Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. there will be a training session on MOE at Democratic Headquarters in Cathedral City. If a computer literate member can attend, we will have access to useful information for reaching out to individual voters.

Phone Tree: Henry Hoyle has been doing all the calling on his own. He needs help to divide up the list.

Outreach: Holly Holabaugh says she is willing to knock on doors of the 600 or so Democrats registered in Palm Desert Greens so that they know more about our club and Democratic issues. MOE, the list Chris Towner has, and that of George Zander can help us in this endeavor.

Candidate Endorsements: Sonja. Chris, Ricki, Gale, Henry, Dale and others from our club are involved in endorsement activities for candidates for state offices.

Activities of Note:

*Jack Mosher has helped one of the gardeners from PDG get through the red tape to achieve U.S. citizenship.

*Julie Bornstein announced a Feb. 20 activity for Planned Parenthood. PDG Dems will pay the $25 fee for up to three members to attend. She also encouraged PDG Dems members to join the $5/month movement to support the Riverside County Democratic Committee.

PROGRAM

Dale Kinnear, Democratic Candidate for Riverside County Superintendent of Education told us about his considerable experience and impressive qualifications for this supposedly non-partisan position. His educational vision includes local control, career/vocational ed expansion, and the necessity of being a cheerleader for education. He asks that anyone who wants to host a coffee or meet-and-greet activity contact him at his website www.dalekinnear.com.

The meeting was adjourned at 11 AM.

NEXT MEETING: It was suggested that each meeting have a suggested topic and that we bring information to share regarding it. The next meeting is set for February 26 at 9:30 AM in the Rec Center.
