MINUTES OF GENERAL
MEMBERSHIP MEETING
JAN. 8, 2010
The meeting was opened at 9:45AM by
President Charlie Ara. Chuck Goodman-Malamuth led the Pledge of
Allegiance, followed by a song led by Henry Hoyle.
MINUTES AND TREASURER’S REPORT:
Minutes of the Dec. 11, 2008 meeting were approved as published on
the PDG Dems website ably designed and run by Chris Towner
(pdgdems.org). The current club bank balance is $1,868.45, including
the 2010 dues received from 36 members.
REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
*Audrey and Chuck Goodman-Malamuth
vacationed in Hawaii while President Obama was there.
*Club member Rick Brodie has been
appointed to the Palm Desert Cultural Relations Preservation
Committee.
*On Thursday, Jan. 14, 12:15, Mary Bono
Mack, Brian Nestande, and other politicians will be appearing at the
ribbon-cutting for the new Green Zone on Mediterranean Ave. (off Cook
and Hovley Lane at Beacon Hill in Palm Desert). PDG Dems are
encouraged to attend and encourage the politicians to do more to
address global climate change.
*On Feb. 18, Barbara Boxer will appear
at the Registrar of Voters in Moreno Valley. A carpool is planned to
support her.
*Upcoming is a demonstration at Mary
Bon’s office supporting immigration reform.
*We would like someone from the club to
attend the MOE (Mobilize, Organize, Elect) training on the
computerized system to help elect Democratic candidates.
*Candidate for State Senate District 37
Art Guerrero made a short candidate’s statement. Following was a
discussion of the PDG Dems participation in endorsements for the 37th
State Senate seat and for state offices.
ACTION:
Those in attendance passed a motion to
provide $25 to each of the PDG Dems members who will participate in
the 2-day candidate training in Moreno Valley.
A motion was passed to send a letter to
President Obama strongly encouraging him to end the Don’t Ask/Don’t
Tell policy.
PROGRAM---2010 CENSUS
Josefat Mendoza and two other
specialists from the U.S. Census Bureau under the U.S. Department of
Commerce made a presentation on the importance of counting everyone
in the 2010 Census count. The 10-item questionnaires will be mailed
out in February and March, with follow-up April through July. An
84-item American Community Survey will be administered to selected
people throughout the next decade. Every person counted is worth
about $1,600/year for California, and the total count will determine
the number of representatives we will have in the House in
Washington, D.C. The information is strictly confidential, available
ONLY to the Department of Commerce. Not even the President or
Immigration has access.
President Charlie Ara adjourned the
meeting at 11:00 AM.

AM AT THE REC CENTER. IT WILL BE A CANDIDATES FORUM FOR THE 37TH
STATE SENATE DISTRICT.
