Meeting Minutes
December 12, 2008

Opening:

The regular meeting of the Palm Desert Greens Democrats was called to order at 10:00 after a Potluck social breakfast on 12/12/08 in the Rec. Center by Charlie Ara.

Present:

A.        Approval of Agenda

The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed.

B.        Approval of Minutes

The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved as read by Kay Black.

C.        Open Issues

The slate of officers for next year was read and approved unanimously.

D.        New Business

Suggested Committee heads and issues groups were read by Charlie Ara.  A resolution supporting the lawsuit against Prop. 8 was read by Charlie Ara and approved. (See Attached Resolution).

An envelope for next year’s projects and issues was made available for members to contribute ideas for the coming year. Manny Perez gave a talk on our local issues.

A poster titled “Change Is Coming” was made available for all members and guests to write the changes that they would like to see from the new Obama administration.

 The comments written were:

Universal Health Care

Create Green Jobs!

Reverse The Depression!

Stop political payments for jobs!

Do something about how big banks are treating their customers/consumers.

Tax private schools.

Keep homeowners in their homes

Don’t Ask – Don’t Tell

Continue to inspire us that we can work together to solve daunting problems!!

Opportunity for “Trade Industrial” Classes for students.

E.         Agenda for Next Meeting

Ray Cunningham made a motion for a to write a letter to the Palm Desert City Council advocating televising the city council meetings, since the meetings are at 4:00 p.m. and working people are unable to attend. The motion was seconded and passed.

Next meeting will be January 9, 2009

Meeting was never adjourned, as members were enjoying the potluck!
